I hope this email finds you healthy and safe.

Updates this week include: Easter holiday, Powerlift Champion, Member Coffee and Upcoming Events.

Easter Holiday – A reminder that the YMCA is closed on Easter Sunday with youth programming and Swim School taking a break for the holiday weekend. It is my hope that you take the opportunity to spend time with family and friends to celebrate the holiday.

For some, plans may include traveling overnight out of state. With the exception of team travel, the CT travel advisory has been removed/replaced with the recommendation of following CDC travel guidelines. As of today, the CDC has indicated that those who are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 within the last three months do not need to quarantine upon return from a trip.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

That said, positivity and hospitalizations in CT are on the rise recently. Further, the Y has had some positive test results for our staff so the Y has adopted the CDC guidelines that require a post-travel quarantine for our staff. We are taking these steps to assure the health and safety of both our Membership and Staff. For the benefit of all, I recommend/request that our Membership give consideration to following the CDC guidelines should you be traveling during this time of year.

Powerlifting Champion at the Y – Those who visit the Wellness and Base Fitness early in the morning know Luke Laubscher as a Y regular who moves a lot of metal during his workouts. What you may not know is that Luke recently competed in the USA Powerlifting Spring Classic last month…..and won his weight class in his very first competition! Congratulations, Luke!

Friday Morning Member Coffee – We have recently returned our Friday morning Member Coffee as a weekly event. Stop by the Lounge area beginning at 6 AM and enjoy a cup of coffee as you start the last workday of the week while you chat with fellow Members and Staff in a socially distant manner. We look forward to seeing you there.

Upcoming Events – We have many activities coming your way in April. Please frequently check the Y Events Calendar on the YMCA homepage (lower right corner) for the latest update. Some of the highlights:

  • Community Wellness – we are starting our LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program on April 12 and sponsoring a Community Wellness Open House on April 21 from 9 – 11 AM where you can explore the programs that support wellness of mind, body and spirit as well as listen to a presentation by Dr. Allison Ostroff, Director of Geriatric Assessment for Stamford Health on the topic.
  • Spring Programs start on April 19.
  • Healthy Kids Day/Family Fitness Fair on April 24 from 10 AM – 12 PM in the Mason Street parking lot.

Stay healthy and safe!
