WELLNESS CLASSES OFFERED AT THE YMCA OF GREENWICH

 

ACTIVE & STRONG

Active Adults Welcome!  This class will keep you moving through a variety of exercises, combining cardio conditioning well as weight segments to increase bone density and strengthen core. This class is appropriate for all levels of fitness, including anyone new to fitness and those who have been exercising for a long time.

 

ADULT BOXING

Come get your heart rates up with a fun interactive class which you will not only learn proper boxing techniques but be tested with drills professional boxers use to get ring ready.

 

BALANCE & STRENGTH

This class is designed to build and stabilize muscle groups while improving posture, balance and strength. Weights and mat work are included.

 

BARRE

Barre fitness is a hybrid workout class – combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training.

 

BOOT CAMP

MAXIMUM calorie burn with 60 minutes of intense interval exercises and partnered drills. Boot camp is held outside when weather is good, and in basketball court otherwise.  No excuse to miss this heart pumping class!

 

BUDOKON YOGA

synchronizes classical yoga with, martial arts, calisthenics, animal locomotion and life science

 

BUTS & GUTS

Focus is on core strength, with a variety of bodyweight exercises to tone, strengthen, and work the core and glutes.

 

CARDIO SCULPT

Half hour of easy to follow Aerobic movements, combined with half hour of weights working upper body, legs and glutes.

 

CHISEL & BURN

A full hour workout based on a pyramid covering cardio, weights, legs and core.

 

CORE & MORE

Strengthen and condition your core muscles…and more! This class will work your core while incorporating the upper and lower body, giving you a full body workout!

 

DANCE FUSION

This lively, fun, ever-changing, total-body exercise class combines dance, cardio, stretching, aerobic and body-strengthening exercises to get your heart rate up and tone your muscles, entirely energized by upbeat, motivating, international pop-music (no equipment or experience necessary).

 

FIT 4 LIFE

Active Adults Welcome! This class moves through a variety of movements and exercises, keeping our older active adults healthy and mobile. Working not only on strength but stability and flexibility as well.

 

FIT IN 5

Work is concentrated on a specific muscle group for 5 minutes straight in 30 sec intervals, of different exercises targeting the muscle/body part. Focus is on full body, including legs, core, arms and cardio.

 

FIT360

60-minute interval based workout with a group of up to 15 people designed to tone up and increase strength. This class will focus on functional movements, progressive resistance training, and cardio-based interval training.

 

GROUP POWER®

Group Power® is Your Hour of Power! Blast all your muscles with this high-rep weight training workout. You choose your station set up, so if you are just starting or a seasoned participant everyone can determine the weights that are right for them!

 

NIA DANCE

The Nia Technique is a barefoot, mindful movement practice that combines moves from dance, martial arts and healing arts. No experience necessary, dress comfortably.

 

PILATES

A low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.

 

SPIN

We have a variety of spin classes on our schedule which will challenge your cardiovascular strength while you follow a fun routine lead by our instructors. Any level is welcome and modifications to make your ride harder or easier are always given.

 

TAI CHI
Tai chi is a series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai chi is sometimes described as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle movements — connecting the mind and body.

 

TABATA STRONG

Tabata offers short bursts of peak effort using the formula of a work/rest ratio of 2:1. The class includes alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercise with body weight exercises creating an intense workout

 

ZUMBA®/ ZUMBA BURST

A super fun high-energy cardio dance workout based on international music and dance styles.

 

 


AQUATIC GROUP WELLNESS

* Active Adults Welcomed! Water exercise is safe, effective and fun for all ages and all abilities, from a beginner to the professional athlete.

 

AQUAFit

This class utilizes both the shallow and deep end of our warm water pool and will  work endurance, toning, strength training, flexibility and range of motion. 

HYDROFIT – We look forward to bringing back HYDROFIT in 2021!

Focus on cardio, strength and flexibility. This exercise will reduce stress on joints and muscles. The water resistance and use of different aquatic equipment will give your muscles tone and reduce body fat as you work at your own level of intensity. This class is suitable for all levels of fitness. This class is offered in the Olympic Pool deep end, Olympic Pool shallow end and our Warm Water Pool.

HYDRO-H.I.I.T BOOT CAMP

Shed calories and get strong in the water. Try our boot camp style high intensity training… in a pool…enough said!

SHALLOW WATER WALKING

Walk your way to fitness using the resistance of the water. Fun and easy with long-lasting results. Reduce the risk of injury by lessening the impact on weight-bearing joints, muscles, and bones, plus it offers an excellent opportunity for muscle toning and body sculpting. Water walking shoes are recommended.

LAP SWIM 

Lap swim is free to members. Non-members wishing to participate may pay the appropriate day fee. The number of lap lanes and recreational times available are subject to change due to special events.

SENIOR SWIM (65 years & up) — We look forward to bringing back Senior Swim in 2021!

For Active Older Adults. No Y membership required but all participants must register for the program and check in at the Member Services desk at each visit. This is an OPEN SWIM. We do not provide any instruction during this time.
