“TWEAKS OF THE WEEK” FROM OUR C.O.O., MICHAEL KELLY

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe.

As we approach the completion of our second week, we have seen our daily attendance grow – from 56 on Reopening Day to 236 on July 1.  It is great to see a growing number of Members feel comfortable to return to our facility.  We also started our Summer Camp program this past Monday.   Wonderful to see young children return to the Y.  Camp is using the playground area in the Mason Street Parking Lot so please be mindful when arriving and departing.

We continue to modify our cleaning protocols, all with an eye towards making the Y a safe and clean destination for your Wellness needs.   Our state has continued to show favorable trends in terms of positive tests, hospitalizations and fatalities and we hope that these results continue.

Please note that this past week, Governor Lamont (along with fellow neighboring Governors Cuomo and Murphy) have mandated a 14-day quarantine if you are returning from a state that has had a 10% or greater positivity test rate over a 7-day rolling average.  The impacted states are updated on the CT Coronavirus website – https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/Covid-19-Knowledge-Base/Travel-In-or-Out-of-CT.  We are asking that our Members follow these quarantine guidelines.  The overarching guideline of not coming to the Y when ill or exhibiting symptoms always prevails.

As promised, below are the updates to our procedures and schedule as well as gentle reminders of past messages – what I am calling the Tweaks of the Week – all effective Monday, July 6 unless otherwise noted.

SAFETY REMINDERS

As re-openings continue around the country, we want to ensure we remain safe and keep our facility a safe and friendly environment. We do not want to follow the path of other states that are seeing reoccurring spikes in their infection rates. You cooperation on the following points is greatly appreciated.

Face Coverings need to be worn throughout the facility at all times, except as noted below.

  • Wellness – Face Covering must be worn at all times except in your defined workout area and:
    • 6 feet apart while performing non-vigorous exercise.
    • 12 feet apart while performing vigorous exercise.
      • When you move between workout areas, you must have your face covering in place.

Social Distancing – As we have noticed some slippage in complying with distancing guidelines, please keep an eye out for the multiple markers and signs throughout the building indicating the desired distances.

Remember your Membership card – Required in general, but especially if using underground garage that is equipped with new badge reader for enhanced safety. This will help ensure a quick and timely check-in.

AQUATICS – we are continuing to expand our offerings!

Olympic Pool Aquatic Reservation System – below you will note changes to permit more Members to utilize the pool and change our schedule. To accommodate these changes, the reservation system will require a rebuild. We appreciate your patience as we work through these changes!

  • To take advantage of the upcoming holiday weekend, we will be taking the Olympic pool reservation system offline from 12 noon on Friday until end of day Saturday for the rebuild, at which time you will be able to make reservations for Monday onward.
  • Once offline, please call the Front Desk at 203.869.1630 to make your reservations for Saturday and Sunday.

 Olympic Pool

  • Our new Seresco Dehumidification system installation is complete! The air quality was quite good at the time of this note – 57% humidity on a hot July day.
  • The temporary units that were necessary during transition have been removed, giving us more available deck space.
    • Added deck space permits us to return some of the bleachers
    • Permit Parents/Guardians onto pool deck, if necessary
    • Bleachers will be marked for seating (last two rows) as well as incremental storage (first row). See bleachers in the below layout schematic
  • With the above change, we can expand swim lanes to permit two people to reserve a lane at the same time. This will allow two members from the same family to reserve the same lane and will also permit us to lower the age restrictions as parents/guardians can monitor their minors in the pool.
  • Changing timing from 5 minute to 15 minute for groups of lanes at :00, 0:15, 0:30 and 0:45
    • Will permit greater flexibility and optimization of pool time
    • Will create some shorter lane reservations (e.g., 40 minute swim period

  • We are going to expand Alumni Pool usage for Senior Members from 12:35-2:00PM with (2) 40-minute swim sessions.
  • Capacity is (3) swimmers in the pool at one time.
  • See Alumni Pool in below layout schematic

  • 7-10 – Parent/Guardian on Deck
  • 11 – 13 – Parent/Guardian in the Building
  • Non-swimmer of any age – Parent or Guardian in the pool.

GROUP WELLNESS – We continue to increase our product offering to include more Group Exercise classes!

  • Virtual classes have been added and will continue to expand.
