The C.O.O. Corner – A Message from Michael Kelly, C.O.O.

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe.

Usually focus of this greeting is COVID-19-related but can add Isaias to the list for this week.

POWER, DEHUMIDIFICATION & BUILDING ACCESS

The last few weeks have seen challenges abound on all fronts as we work our way through the pandemic as well as weather and power issues – some days too much power and then these last few days when much of our surrounding area is without it.  A power surge damaged our new Seresco dehumidification system a couple of weeks ago, storms that have damaged our elevator as well as putting water in the same “new” system as well as leaks on the pool deck and then there is the post storm clean-up this week.   Repairs are either completed or underway for all, including replacement parts for Seresco that have been back-ordered due to COVID-19 supplier shutdowns.   In order to better control the humidity, we have eliminated the use of the Washington Avenue doors that were exposing the pool directly to the exterior environment.   As we have become more experienced with reservations and entry to the facility, we feel we can manage our flow through the Mason Street and Underground Parking Lots.  Your continued cooperation of social distancing at our entry and exit points is appreciated.

ALUMNI POOL SHUTDOWN

As many of our experienced Members know, we usually close for a week or two during August to perform maintenance on the facility.   We were able to complete all our annual maintenance as well as make significant headway on our capital projects during our spring closure period.  The one exception is the installation of the new dehumidification system for the Alumni Pool.    We made the decision to keep the Alumni Pool open during the summer for Day Camp, Swim School and Senior Swim.  In order for us to prepare for Fall Programs, we will be closing the Alumni Pool ONLY for two weeks, beginning August 24.

YMCA APP UPDATES

Our new App is up and running – for those who are using, you saw the communication value when we were able to share our early closure message with all parties.  (Make sure you have notifications enabled.) We hope that you are finding it a useful tool for reservations and beyond.

Using the Filter Feature for Classes

We have received some feedback about the need to scroll through a host of lanes and classes to get to your desired reservation.  Once you select “View all Classes” to get to Find a Class, there is a Filter feature in the upper left corner.  You can make selections, including Class Type and Instructor that permit you to get to your target more promptly.

In order to edit your personal profile:

  1. Go to the following link https://www.egym.com/user-login
  2. Login with your App login details (email and password)
  3. Choose “User Data” to update name, date of birth, and contact information
  4. Go to “Account Settings” to choose your language, desired units of measurement or password

Please note that changes may not take effect immediately. If you need additional assistance, please contact the Member Services Team at frontdesk@gwymca.org.

NEW HAND SANITIZING STATIONS

You have probably noticed that we have new hand sanitizers throughout the building.   While just as safe as the previous, we have found that these machines are more efficient and easier to source their sanitizer.  However, one change is the speed in which the sanitizer is delivered.  You need to leave your hand under the sanitizer for a longer period than previously required.

Stay Healthy and Safe!
