The C.O.O. Corner – A Message from Michael Kelly, C.O.O.

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe.

As we enter the week before Labor Day, we are taking a collective breath and preparing for the start of the fall season with some trepidation.   The models for schools vary as there are students who are not opting into the proposed hybrid method.  Teachers are unsure how they are going to handle live and virtual classes concurrently.  At the Y, we are looking to provide programs that will accommodate our children’s ever changing schedules.  There is always the specter of potential flare-ups – see Danbury this last week – so there are concerns about how we will manage during the fall and beyond.  We continue to be vigilant at the Y and appreciate your consideration and support.

Fall Program Registration for Members will begin Tuesday, September 8

While we hope we can avoid flare-ups, we are being proactive in addressing Member concerns about paying for programs in full in advance.  While we continue to seek commitments for the duration of a program, we have shortened our billing periods so that you do not have to pay the entire balance upfront (although full program payments remain an option, the default option is the shorter period.)  Further, we have outlined our plan for different scenarios – government-mandated closures, impact and approach when Member/Staff tests positive – both for the Member/Staff as well as the group/class they shared with others.   These scenarios were considered remote a year ago and while we hope that we do not have to implement any of the scenarios outlined, it is prudent that we have such a policy and communicate it to all so there are no surprises as we had last spring.  Members will be required to accept/acknowledge this policy as part of their program registration.

Please be sure to read our detailed updated Credit/ Refund Policy below.

ANNUAL MEETING – SEPTEMBER 29

Another type of important communication is our Annual Meeting for Members.  Normally this meeting takes place in the spring but we were closed at the time so we postponed until the September.  The Meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening, September 29 at 6:00PM.  All Members are welcome to attend.  Location is still TBD (in-person or via Zoom link) so please be sure to keep an eye our for additional notices.

I hope you enjoy your last “unofficial” week of summer.

Stay Healthy and Safe!

YMCA Refund/Credit Policy

All YMCA Programs that begin this Fall will follow their usual commitment period (e.g., Swim Team – one year, Fall Programs – 12-weeks.)  As the commitment is for an extended period, we understand that there are concerns related to potential closure for COVID-19.  With that as background, the YMCA will be billing over a periodic basis (e.g., annual/quarterly commitment programs will be billed quarterly and 12-week programs will be billed monthly).  Each of the programs has their own “trial” periods where a full refund can be obtained for non-COVID-19 reasons (e.g., two weeks for annual programs.)

Additional information for all programs related to COVID-19 related closures are listed below:

    • Prior to reaching the halfway point in the billing period, the Y will issue a ratable credit to be used for the next session.
