Healthy Living Coordinator

FLSA Status: Part Time, 10-15 hours weekly, Non Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance from the Director, the Healthy Living Coordinator is responsible for promotion of Greenwich YMCA wellness classes and programs as well as the supervision and evaluation of the following areas: fitness rooms, group exercise studios, and personal training equipment.

Additional responsibilities include recruiting and retaining group exercise members. The position will assist with recruiting, the interview process of potential staff and the onboarding for the wellness staff; collaborating on the development of class schedules; creating member events; teaching group exercise classes; ensuring the exercise areas and equipment are in first class condition; to include assisting in the administration of the Parkinson’s Wellness and LIVESTRONG fitness programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist the Director in planning and implementing new health and wellness programs and initiatives. To include expansion within the community
  2. Create group exercise, wellness staff schedules and manages sub request to ensure a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes mental wellness and engagement.
  3. Subs or teaches group classes as needed.
  4. Attend all meetings, workshops and seminars as directed by Director.
  5. Assist Director with maintenance of staff records in accordance with any and all regulatory agencies and the YMCA.
  6. Assist Director with staff onboarding, as needed. Promote the “YMCA Story” at all chances.
  7. Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.
  8. Maintain a clean facility.
  9. Maintain accurate inventory of all equipment related to the program and track and report usage data of classes.
  10. Follow accident reporting procedures and policies.
  11. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff.
  12. Enforces all YMCA policy and procedures.
  13. Assist Director in maintaining member feedback and communication.
  14. Build effective, authentic relationships with member; help members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  15. Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training or equipment.
  16. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A HS Diploma or GED is required. Prefer an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or health related field. Will accept experience in lieu of college degree.
  2. Requires training and certifications in YMCA fitness programs, especially YMCA specialist training or equipment.
  3. Requires current national certification in group exercise and/ or personal training.
  4. Personal leadership and commitment to health and wellness is important.
  5. Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff.
  6. Requires knowledge of computer software application and hardware. Employee must have working knowledge of Windows Office Suite. Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Current CPR/AED or obtaining within first 30 days of hire. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  9. Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, as well as capacity to drive to various locations as our program need indicate as we grow community programs.
  10. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  11. Should have leadership and management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment and requires occasional work in off-site locations.
  2. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary.
  3. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
  4. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 45 pounds is required.
  5. Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.
  6. Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.
  7. Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
