VOLUNTEERING AT THE Y

Get involved, make a difference, give back to the Greenwich Community.

Whether you are an adult interested in a one-time event, ongoing project or community service, or a student wishing to fulfill class or internship requirements, the Y has volunteer opportunities for you and welcomes your participation.

Available Volunteer Positions

 

Adaptive Basketball Coach Volunteer 

Department: Programming

Position: Help coach our ABILIS youth group and enjoy playing basketball at the same time. This is our most popular volunteer activity with high school students.

Commitment/ Hours: Saturdays 11am-12:00pm and/ or 12pm-1:00pm

Age Requirement: High School Students & Adults

 

Administration Volunteer 

Department: Administration

Position: Light Clerical Work

Commitment/ Hours: As Needed

Age Requirement: Adults

 

Aquatics Volunteer 

Department: Aquatics

Position: Become an Ambassador for our children’s swimming classes.  We need a friendly adult to welcome children and families to the pool area, take attendance for swim classes, steer children entering and exiting the pool area and engage families prior to the beginning of classes.

Commitment/ Hours: Saturday and/or Sunday: 8:45am – 12:00pm

Age Requirement: Adults & Students 18+

 

Early Learning Center Volunteer 

Department: Early Learning Center (ELC)

Location: 2 St. Roch Avenue, Greenwich, CT (ELC Building)

Position: Make a difference in a child’s life. Become a Homework Helper for the Family First in Education program for children who are struggling with reading and math.

Commitment/ Hours: Monday – Thursday: 4-5:00pm

Age Requirement: Adults & College Students 18+

 

Member Services Volunteer 

Department: Member Services (Front Desk Welcome Center – Mason St. Lobby Entrance)

Position: Welcome members and guests at the Front Desk.  Provide information, answer questions and direct people to program locations.

Commitment/ Hours: Two (2) hours or MORE, on any of the following days:

  • Monday – Thursday and Saturday: 8am-7:00pm
  • Sunday: 8am-5:00pm

Age Requirement: Adults & Students 18+

Department: Member Services (Front Door Welcome Center – E. Putnam Ave. Entrance)

Position: Welcome members and guests at the first floor at the Front Door on E. Putnam Ave.  Provide information, answer questions and direct people to program locations.

Commitment/ Hours: Two (2) hours or MORE, on any of the following days:

  • Monday – Friday: 3pm-7:00pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8am-11:00am

Age Requirement: Adults & Students 18+

 

Parkinson’s Body & Mind Program Volunteer 

Department: Wellness

Position: Join us for our Parkinson’s Body and Mind Program, patiently helping participants to enjoy our boxing, yoga, dance and meditation classes.

Commitment/ Hours: Class schedule is as follows:

  • Monday 10:30am–11:30am
  • Wednesday 11:00am–12:00pm
  • Friday 10:00am–11:00am
  • Saturday 10:30am–11:30am
  • Sunday 12:30pm–1:30pm

Age Requirement: Adults

 

Planting & Gardening Volunteer 

Department: Facilities

Position: As the need arises throughout the seasons for “sprucing” around the YMCA building.

Commitment/ Hours: As needed.

Age Requirement: Adults & Children accompanied by Adults

 

Special Events Volunteer 

Department: Varies

Position: Assist with Annual Appeal Mailing / Depending on up-coming events (please check back for more information).

Commitment/ Hours: During standard business hours (9am-5pm), or otherwise depending on event.

Age Requirement: Adults
