The YMCA of Greenwich is seeking an exceptionally driven Chief Executive Officer to lead our organization to a new chapter of growth and prosperity.  This position reports to the Board of Directors and manages an organization with an annual operating budget of approximately $6 million.

Position Description and Board Expectations:

The CEO is responsible for executing upon the strategic direction of the organization as established in conjunction with the board.   This individual must institute a culture of excellence across all departments, building necessary process for accountability and teamwork.  This individual oversees all aspects of operations, finance, and development.

The CEO must strengthen the organization’s balance sheet through data driven decision making and strong development initiatives.  The CEO is expected to be visible in the community, ensuring that the YMCA of Greenwich remains a highly respected and desired partner.

This individual should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles:

OPERATIONS AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Recruit and develop key staff, develop individual metrics with accountability.
  • Design an annual operating plan which focuses on membership growth.
  • Establish and implement the programmatic direction of the organization that builds member value and increases overall member satisfaction.
  • Continually monitor and assess risk. Manage legal commitments.
  • Assure that the organization’s provision of high-quality program services is consistent with Board policies and long-standing community expectations.

FINANCIAL

  • Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position.
  • Establish a standard for high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs.
  • Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets.
  • Work with staff and the Finance Committee of the board to prepare a comprehensive fiscal year operating budget and multi-year capital budget and projections for the organization
  • Ensure adequate funding to sustain and expand the mission of the organization
  • Develop alternative earned revenue streams to manage the changing mix and dynamics of the organization’s historical earned revenue
  • Provide s the Board of Directors with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditures of the organization

FUNDRAISING DEVELOPMENT AND PHILANTHROPY

  • Directs the fundraising, development, and philanthropy strategy and engages with major donors, ensuring that the organization has adequate resources to support its mission.
  • Responsible for successful execution of capital campaigns.
  • Builds connections with community leaders to strengthen YMCA brand within the community.
  • Develop and implement stewardship strategies.
  • Represents the organization at fundraising meetings and events, ensuring that the YMCA of Greenwich remains a highly respected and desired partner.
  • Interacts with political partners, advocacy organizations, and industry groups to promote the work and mission of the organization and build awareness of the need for ongoing community support.

Qualifications

  • Accredited 4-year college degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of prior experience in senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and meticulous fiscal management in excess of $5M or more annually.
  • Successful experience in developing and executing upon a strategic plan
  • Fundraising experience in annual campaigns, capital efforts, endowment and grants.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

General Function:

Assure the effective functioning of a facility to provide an efficient and safe working environment for employees and their activities by using best business practices to manage resources, services and processes to meet the needs of the company

Main Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document daily facilities inspections
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and industry codes

 GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the supervision of the CEO, the Wellness Manager will provide premiere membership service and retention programs by planning, promoting and implementing all Group Exercise programs to ensure growth and development of the YMCA.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a minimum of two years experience in this or a related field.  A four-year college degree in a health related field of study is preferred.  Prior experience as a YMCA professional is also preferred.  Current CPR (child and adult), AED and First Aid.  Must hold appropriate accreditations/certifications.  Proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong knowledge of group exercise, as well as understanding of proper cleaning and upkeep of the wellness areas, are necessary.

 RESPONSIBILITY – Wellness Manager

  1. Provides leadership to Group Exercise, Floor Trainers, and Massage Therapy programs.
  2. Projects a positive and enthusiastic image on the job at all times.
  3. Maintains a high level of customer service.
  4. Develops retention and sales initiatives.
  5. Well organized, innovative and a team player.
  6. Makes independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
  7. Maintains a broad knowledge of Group Wellness for adults and youths.
  8. Ensures appropriate staff coverage regarding group exercise, etc. fills in as needed.
  9. Vary the schedule to attend all classes, evaluate the instructors and meet all members.
  10. Designs and maintains a diverse schedule of activities and classes for members of all abilities and wellness levels.
  11. Participates in the development, management, and monitoring of the approved budget for the Wellness Department and takes appropriate action to report and correct variances.
  12. Completes payroll for all associates in a timely fashion.
  13. Hires, trains, guides, and supervises Wellness staff and volunteers as necessary to provide member service effectively.
  14. Establishes systems and monitors adherence to membership policies, procedures and standards for both members and staff.
  15. Maintains appropriate training and certifications for staff. Ensures that all necessary certifications are kept up-to-date and timely submitted to Human Resources for personnel files.
  16. Coordinates with the Director of Human Resources to address concerns and to develop staff.
  17. Evaluates staff in a formal manner annually addressing growth areas on an on-going basis.
  18. Maintains relationships with other organizations and community groups.
  19. Visits other facilities searching for the best instructors.
  20. Conducts department staff meetings on a regular basis.
  21. Prepares a comprehensive courses outline and schedule, and review with the CEO.
  22. Prepares reports as requested by the CEO.
  23. Maintains a safe and well organized Wellness Center, Aerobics Studio, Free Weight Room and Spin Room.
  24. Works with supervisor, Facilities Director and staff to ensure that program areas are always clean and in proper working order. Communicates equipment problems promptly.
  25. Plans seminars relating to nutrition, diabetes awareness, etc.
  26. Plans monthly events: spin month, zumbathon, yoga open house, etc.
  27. Works on special events throughout the year and attends community functions to promote the YMCA, its mission and programs.
  28. Maintains high level of professionalism within the department by enforcing dress code, well behavior, etc.
  29. Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

 EFFECT ON END RESULT

The effectiveness of the fulfillment of this position shall be measured by:

  1. The degree to which there is a steady growth in the number of members attending classes as well as the level of member satisfaction.
  2. Sound administration of the group exercise department through purposeful and coordinated programs, good public relations and understanding, a sound financial position and good records.
  3. The morale of employed staff and volunteers and their effectiveness with people in the performance of their responsibilities.
